DeMonchaux CWSR Titanium Tubes
As there are different types of titanium and welding methods, here is DeMonchaux's specific information page that is aimed to help you to understand with what and how DeMonchaux frames and parts are made.
All DeMonchaux frames, forks, stems and handlebars are built with Seamless Cold Worked Stress Relieved (CWSR) Ti-3Al2.5V grade Titanium tubes.
CWSR Titanium tubes have superior mechanical properties compared to "Annealed" Titanium tubes.
CWSR tube's ultimate strength is 125 Ksi (Vs 90 Ksi for Annealed), CWSR yeld Strength is 862 Mpa (Vs 621 Mpa for Annealed tube) and elongation resistance of CWSR tube is 105 Ksi (Vs 70 Ksi for Annealed Titanium tube).
Thanks to its superior strength, Weld joints on CWSR Titanium tubing retain about 90% of the initial tensile strength after welding. No post weld heat treatment is normally performed on grade 9 tubing.
DeMonchaux's frames and parts are welded by Automatic TIG method in an inert gas (Argon) shielding atmosphere on both the Outside Diameter and Inside Diameter of the tubes to ensure perfect quality welding.
Some Extra facts about Titanium
Titanium Density is 4.51g / cm3 (0.162 lbs / in3)
Titanium is 45% lighter than Steel, Twice stronger than aluminium and more comfortable than Carbon fiber, Aluminium and Steel frames.
Grade 9 titanium tubing is lighter than comparable steel products, as its density is 45% less than steel tube alloys.
It is 60% more dense than Aluminium but it is more than twice as strong than 6061-T6 Aluminium.
Titanium have lower specific stiffnesses than many other structural materials such as Aluminium alloys and Carbon fiber, which characterize Titanium frames as more comfortable to ride.
Grade 9 or Ti 3AV2.5?
Grade 9 and Ti-3Al2.5V are two different names for one same grade of titanium.
It stands for: High-strength titanium alloyed with 3% Al and 2.5% V.
There are other standard names for this grade, some other names includes ASTMB338 , W.Nr.3.7195 and Uns R56320.
All are relating to the same grade: Ti-3Al2.5V
Ti-3Al2.5V is the titanium grade we exclusively uses to create DeMonchaux frames and parts for it has so many mechanical property advantages over other frame materials such as Steel, Aluminium and Carbon, but also compared to other Titanium grades such as CP (Commercially Pure) and Ti-6Al-4V.
