Road Riding with 26x1.75 winter tires
Most answers would be that 700c wheels are faster than 26” ones.
Looking at my Strava riding history, my riding speed difference is not so obvious.
This means that when the 700x18c wheel makes 1 rotation it cover 2m07 and the 26x1.75 does 2m02.
Road specific 26x1.75 rolling band is not much wider than the 700x18C’s tire since the “fat” tire profile is rounded, not flat.
Evidently, the 26x1.75 tire is heavier than the 700x18c tire, however the comfort procured by the 26x1.75 is makes me less tired riding on bad condition road and less prone to flat tire.
Obviously, 700c wheel size have a lot of advantage going for them, however, comparing the riding comfort and wheel strength thanks to shorter spokes, thus providing great power transmission, 26” wheels do have many advantages too.
I am currently testing various 26” tires for road in order to establish practical tire selection database.
